Illinois Tool Works Inc. is vacating a leased label converting plant in San Jose, Calif., and moving the production to Buford, Ga.
The 10,000-square-foot facility's permanent closure will result in the loss of 54 jobs, according to a notification that ITW filed July 17 with the California Employment Development Department.
"We are making this move to consolidate our resources in order to maintain costs, maximize our ability to invest in new technology and bring more value to our customers," Dean Ketchum, director of sales at the San Jose location, said in a message to customers.
The label business is part of ITW's specialty products business segment, which serves diversified niche markets. The Glenview, Ill.-based conglomerate reported profit of $1.69 billion on 2017 sales of $14.31 billion.
